God Doesn't Want Us To Be Alone

A man holds his solar-powered radio in front of a home in rural Africa. In Luke 10, Jesus appointed 72 disciples to go out to every town and place where He was about to go. Jesus gave them very specific instructions. He told them to travel light. They weren’t to take anything with them—not even money, sandals, or a bag. He told them to be content with whatever food, drink, and accommodations were offered them. Jesus let them know that this was not going to be a vacation. They were going to places where they would not always be welcomed. Jesus didn’t sugarcoat their assignment. He told them they would be like lambs sent among wolves.

Jesus knew that sending these 72 disciples out by themselves would not end well, so He sent them out in groups of two. The Bible is filled with examples showing that God doesn’t want us to be alone. He created us and designed us to function together as parts of the body of Christ. God wants us to work together in unity.

This past week, I personally met with one of our long-time radio partners in Sub-Saharan Africa. His country is going through really difficult times. They face the challenges of operating stations in areas where the predominant religion is not Christianity. Believers are scared, and even the pastors have fled. That means their broadcasts are the only voice of the Gospel left in that area.

In the midst of all of the violence and upheaval, God is also giving our partner amazing opportunities to share the Good News in tangible ways. He currently has seven requests for clean water wells and a large community is begging them to start a medical clinic, offering 12 acres of land for the project. He has Christian doctors and nurses who are ready to serve, but they need a building and equipment.

Our partner needs prayer now more than ever! Ask God to give them wisdom amidst all of the opportunities and challenges they face. Pray that God would protect their staff from harm. Ask God to send the Holy Spirit to work in people’s hearts and bring peace to the region. Pray that many more people would soon find true hope in Jesus Christ.

I am convinced that God has uniquely prepared Reach Beyond to co-labor and partner with indigenous believers who are passionate about declaring and demonstrating the Gospel around the world. God has given us opportunities to encourage, mentor, and help by using tools like radio, digital media, healthcare, and community development to share His Good News. God does not want them to labor alone.

I believe God has created you and placed you to walk alongside other believers to accomplish His purposes, whether in your work, your church, your community, or across the world. I pray that the Light of the Gospel will shine brightly through you.
