Community Development Experience in Benin, West Africa

When: July 6-26, 2025
Who: Anyone interested in being involved in community development work in a mission context
What: Are you looking for a way to live out your faith through action?
We celebrate the completion of more than 30 wells in Benin, a testament to faith in action! But our work isn't done yet! We need an energetic and motivated team to join us on a three-week journey to fully assess the impact of these wells.
Come and help us as we examine these wells to ensure they continue to function safely and efficiently. We also will seek to understand their impact and how these water sources have transformed lives.
Who: Whether you’re an experienced professional or a 3rd or 4th-year student, we need your insights to ensure these wells effectively serve their communities.
We are looking to put together a team of engineers, technicians, scientists, development practitioners, educators, public health workers, seminary students, and people interested in community development work in missions.
We want to investigate the impact and we will approach it from various angles: technical, social, spiritual, and educational. We are all working on the same project, adding value to clean water initiatives in West Africa. By collaborating from our unique perspectives, we can achieve a common goal and make a greater impact together.
What to expect:
Training on the Go: Kick off with a crash course in Community Development, Clean Water initiatives, and the latest water testing kits. Don’t worry—we’ll guide you every step of the way!
- Defining the Data We Collect: In this first task, the team will define what data we aim to report. We’ll bring water testing equipment and geolocation trackers. What hard data are we collecting? And what soft data will help us better understand the impact of the wells? This is your chance to shape the insights we gather.
- Field Exploration: Visit numerous wells with your team, collecting both data and stories about their impact. This is an opportunity to witness firsthand the fruits of this ministry and the joy it brings to local communities.
- Water Quality Wizardry: Test water samples for safety and purity. Your findings will help ensure that these wells continue to serve as safe and reliable water sources for the communities.
- Telling the Story: Compile your discoveries and stories into compelling reports. We use these reports to inform our partners in West Africa, adjust our approach if needed, and share in publications and fundraising efforts. You may also use the data for further studies.
Cost: $2800 + airfare
It costs quite a lot in order to travel, be accommodated and eat safely and comfortably for three weeks in West Africa! We aren’t willing to take unnecessary risks with visiting teams, this extra cost will help ensure that you can stay focused on the task at hand – you are even more important to us than the work we are asking you to do!
