Salvation in Secret

June 5, 2014

It hard to imagine that something as small as a handheld radio could have life-changing impact in a person’s life.  But that’s what happened, not just for Fatima (name changed for security purposes), but for more than a dozen of her friends.

Fatima received a SonSet radio from missionaries working with a local radio station in remote Indonesia.  Because Fatima was a Muslim, it was hard for the missionaries to have meaningful contact with her.

But the tiny radio did something the missionaries could not.  It enabled her to hear the good news of Jesus in the privacy of her home at times that wouldn’t raise suspicion.  Fatima listened at night to the message of Jesus on her radio, tucked beneath her pillow, where no one else could hear.

Over a period of time, the messages she heard began to transform her heart until one day she gave her life to Christ.  But it didn’t stop there.  She needed to share her newfound joy with others, so she began to invite her friends to listen to the same programs that changed her life.

Soon, more than a dozen of Fatima’s Muslim friends had also trusted Christ—a leap of faith they knew could jeopardize their lives, but the power of the Gospel was simply too strong to deny.

We refuse to fear the darkness that entraps people when common sense says, “Protect yourself.”  We will put on the armor of God and pray fervently for the sake of the unreached.  [From the Reach Beyond Manifesto]
