Chris Loewen recalls thinking as a child that "missions" was something done far away in foreign languages. But as a high schooler he spent a week working with a church in inner-city Chicago and realized that missions could be closer to home.

Later, while studying at LeTourneau University, God used a professor to explain that even his technology and computer skills could be used to further God's kingdom via radio.

As an engineering student, Loewen spent a spring break at the HCJB Global Technology Center in Elkhart, Ind., helping missionary engineers and technicians who had a passion for sharing the gospel via radio. It became clear to him that God was using these people to reach the lost. He was excited to see this combination of technology and sharing the gospel.

"One thing I'll take away from that trip is to always include God in everything I do," Loewen shared. "No matter where we are in life, we can always help out in some way with the gifts we've been given."

Loewen would become the LeTourneau team leader for a sophisticated senior design project that helped develop part of a state-of-the-art radio system for HCJB Global. Now, as a systems engineer in industry, he wants to help other young engineers become interns at the Technology Center.

In this setting students obtain practical experience for college credit while being exposed to kingdom work, discovering how their God-given talents can be used in that endeavor.
