HCJB Global-UK Brings Home the Gold at Religious Awards Ceremony

October 29, 2010

(October 29, 2010) At last week's Jerusalem Awards, HCJB Global-UK captured the top prize in the "Shorts" category. The award was given for five one-minute spots played on the local radio station, The Pulse, of West Yorkshire on Good Friday this year.

The five winning spots, titled "Jesus Meek and Mild? As if...," were produced by HCJB Global-UK Director Colin Lowther. The two other finalists were BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4.

"It's hard to find any mention of the real meaning of Good Friday on commercial radio stations anymore, so this was an attempt to divert listeners away from the usual chocolate-related Easter banter," Lowther explained. "We wanted to explode a few myths about the Son of God using a fast-moving mix of music and voices. You could call it a God slot with attitude!"

HCJB Global-UK was also a finalist in three other categories, Christmas, Internet Audio and Good Friday. Members of the Whistling Frog Productions radio team have won more than 30 awards for their commercial radio material throughout the years. The goal is to place thought-provoking programs onto commercial radio stations so that an unbelieving audience will be challenged about the claims of Christ.

The Jerusalem Awards, held at the Royal Society of Arts in London Thursday, Oct. 21, encourage the production of original, engaging Christian programming on mainstream radio and television in Britain. Lord and Lady Sainsbury were among those present at the ceremony, sponsored by one of the Sainsbury family's charitable trusts.

HCJB Global-UK focuses on reaching those outside the church who listen to mainstream radio stations. The award-winning radio material is produced by the U.K. team along with a number of production partners who are already working in the radio industry. The U.K. team also offers training to aspiring Christian broadcasters.
