(November 19, 2010 - by Spencer Radzanowski) Four weeks of campaigning. Four HCJB Global representatives. Five Moody Radio stations. Dozens of volunteers. Some 3,696 donors. More than 7,000 radios funded for Africa.
In early October HCJB Global and Moody Radio embarked upon a dynamic campaign aimed at funding 5,000 radios to be sent to the West African country of Ghana. HCJB Global's Turn the Radios On project provides fixed-tuned, solar-powered radios around the world to be distributed by partner stations worldwide.
Moody Radio's Global Partners Project chose to raise donations for Ghana, a nation where radios-a precious commodity-can be used to spread the gospel to entire villages. In addition to funding radios, this campaign sought to fund a four-year Global Leaders Scholarship to Moody Bible Institute for an international student.
HCJB Global President Wayne Pederson, vice presidents Curt Cole and Dick Jacquin and HCJB Global representative Michelle Strombeck campaigned on-air with Moody stations in Chicago, the Quad Cities (Illinois-Iowa border region); the South (Alabama and Mississippi); Spokane, Wash.; and West Michigan Oct. 27-28 and Nov. 10-11.
The response surpassed all expectations as HCJB Global's call center in Colorado Springs, Colo., was flooded with pledges from eager donors with a heart for radio, missions and the African continent. Each Moody Radio Station met or exceeded its original campaign goals. As a result, the campaign funded more than 2,000 radios above the goal-radios that will be used to reach Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone with the good news of Jesus Christ.
Bruce Everhart, manager of marketing and development for Moody Radio stated, "We are so thankful for the thousands of Moody Radio listeners who responded to the Turn the Radios On campaign with HCJB Global. Their generous support of this cause is another great reminder of how God is using our listeners to advance His kingdom across the globe, and we are thrilled to be a part of it."
Stories of generous and sacrificial donations abound. One young woman wanted to give but did not have any funds available. That very evening, she found an anonymous check of $100 in her mailbox and joyfully donated it to the campaign. Another caller was a teacher whose students were so excited about the project that they took a classroom donation to fund radios. Yet another donor wept with joy as she donated radios that would be used in her home country of Ghana.
A donor in Illinois summed up the heart of the campaign; "If this will make a difference in a single person's life, that's huge. To make a difference in several people's lives would be an incredible blessing. Yesterday I read a Scripture from Matthew about going into the world to make disciples. I can't go to Africa myself but I can send a radio!"
HCJB Global President was moved by the response and by Moody Radio's generous participation, "Partnerships are the ministry DNA of HCJB Global," he said. "There is such an energy and synergy between Moody and HCJB Global. The fact that in a few days our teams could raise funds to send more than 7,000 radios for unreached people in Africa is a grand slam homerun! We're so grateful for the shared vision that allows us to produce such strategic impact around the world."
