Pointing People to the Savior from a Studio Painted Green

He is Pastor G* but remembers a time when searcher better described his experience. Another time he became convinced-not by a human being but by God's Holy Spirit-that his identity needed to include the term sinner.

His story is like those of many others from Thailand who now follow Jesus Christ.

A devout Buddhist, he found Christianity interesting. Wanting to study it, he joined a church and began attending Bible studies as faithfully as any believer. After about six months, Pastor G concluded that he needed to make a decision: Buddhism or Christianity.

He chose to follow Jesus, but still was not convinced that he was a sinner. He even vigorously disagreed with his pastor on this subject. Then during a church service he became convinced by the Holy Spirit that yes, indeed he had rebelled against God's ways and rejected divine love. Breaking into tears, he turned from his sins. Since then, Pastor G has had a desire to serve the Lord.

He started Christian work in a town, but then moved to a small rural center 18 years ago. The congregation, small and impoverished, followed God and watched Him turn their group into a thriving church with over 200 people. In fact, the church members hope to build a new facility, having outgrown their present meeting site.

The "G" could well stand for the color green, which is his favorite. He loves it so much that the church he pastors is a pale shade of green. The recording studio that the church operates even has acid green-painted egg cartons covering the walls. The egg cartons are necessary to help with sound. The color green is all for fun.

As much as Pastor G wants to brighten up his community with color, one area was sorely in need of some brightening: the transmitter. Already old and with a tendency to overheat, it was damaged by a lightning strike just days before Pastor G hosted radio training for members of his church. The station's antenna had been damaged by poorly installed connections.

With help from HCJB Global and the Thai Christian Radio Network (TCRN), the church acquired better equipment. Recent training attended by the new announcers is helping to color the lives and souls of all who tune in. The station still airs primarily Christian programming but is blending in features on sports, women's issues, health and programs for children. The training prompted the airing of seven new programs.

On the air for about two years, Pastor G's intent is to provide encouragement and to nurture Christian listeners in their faith, as well as share the love of Jesus with those who do not yet know Him.

"We want to show non-Christians that Christians can be their friends," said Pastor G.

*The pastor's identity is not divulged for security reasons.
