Annual Impact Report Cover

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.” MATTHEW 9:35

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.” MATTHEW 9:35

DEAR FRIEND OF REACH BEYOND,

The Gospels describe how Jesus went to all the towns and villages. He proclaimed the Good News. He healed the sick. He made disciples, and He taught people how to follow Him. Jesus showed us practical ways to share the Gospel with the unreached that remain just as relevant in global missions today.

We believe that every man, woman, and child should have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. Jesus tasked each of us, as part of the Body of Christ, to work together to carry out His Great Commission. As a result, Reach Beyond’s ministries are highly intertwined with other like-minded, but independent partner ministries all around the world. We multiply our efforts by working together as one. We share our people, our knowledge, our resources, and we co-labor alongside believers who are passionate about reaching people in their communities.

As you read through this impact report, I hope you will be encouraged and join us in praising God for all that He has done.

May God fill you with joy as you walk with Him today.

OUR BACKGROUND

Reach Beyond began in 1931 in Quito, Ecuador as HCJB, the world’s first missionary radio station. God gave our founders a monumental vision to reach the whole world by radio and, in time, to add healthcare ministries to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people around them. They were determined to use any available method, tool, or technology in “Heralding Christ Jesus’ Blessings” and making disciples of all nations.

Through The Ephraim Project, faithful missionaries and volunteers had the joy of seeing two Middle Eastern English learners choose to follow Jesus.

“Good Shepherd Radio is being embraced by the entire community,” reports Pastor Tee, the station manager. This brand-new West African station’s broadcasts can be heard clearly in surrounding villages and in a neighboring country.

All six students in this year’s Central Asia media training program became followers of Jesus.

Berber Christians in North Africa received 10 print and 10 audio Bibles translated into their heart language. The first person to receive an audio Bible was thrilled to hear Scripture in their own language!

“I really thank you for this opportunity that you have granted me that the Gospel can finally reach my people, my ethnic group through media.”

MEDIA

MEDIA

MEDIA

Reach Beyond’s media ministries around the world span a wide range of platforms and audiences. Whether through land-based radio, television, internet broadcasting, websites, or social media, we proclaim God’s Word to the nations, meeting the spiritual needs of each unique audience. Some of our stations and media partners focus on encouraging and teaching believers in countries and regions with limited Christian resources. Others focus on “pre-evangelism,” preparing unreached peoples to open up and receive the Gospel. This approach requires creative media strategies designed to break down walls of hostility and introduce important biblical concepts.

PREPARING THE WAY

Proclaiming the Gospel in the former Soviet Union often requires extensive pre-evangelistic prep work among people who are either unaware of or hostile toward anything related to Christianity. In Central Asia, Reach Beyond and ministry partners are breaking ground with innovative media outlets like Young Lifestyle Media* (YLM). Daniil* founded YLM with a primary focus on preparing the spiritual soil in the country where he works. He created YLM as an online media presence that introduces young people who are either unfamiliar with or uninterested in spiritual things in a context that they understand. Through web articles, videos, and other resources, the YLM team presents biblical concepts to their audience then engages with their readers and viewers through the website’s comments sections. One commenter, Anatoly*, shared a common sentiment. He said, “Thanks for your site. I visit it at least once a day. Good and inspiring articles, and I find the discussions good as well.” Much of YLM’s content covers current events, technology, and sports, but a noteworthy portion addresses issues young people often face, such as the meaning of life, navigating relationships, and thriving in the workplace. YLM articles and videos offer wisdom, insight, and advice on these issues based on biblical principles, providing their audience with an anchor few have encountered in their lives. Despite focusing primarily on “preparing the soil” for planting Gospel seeds, Young Lifestyle Media was blessed in 2022 with a short yet heartening comment from Nastasia*. She said, “I became Christian through your site. Thanks!”

Multi-purpose light poles provide light and proclaim the Gospel

LIGHT TO THE NATIONS

Villages in Ghana are hearing the Gospel through mini “radio stations” mounted on solar-powered multipurpose poles. These poles power streetlights, phone chargers, and a small Wi-Fi server containing all sorts of Christian content that users can download directly to their phone. The initiative is led by local partner Theovision in cooperation with Reach Beyond New Zealand and our team in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Reach Beyond’s medical ministries provide sick and hurting people with a level of healing the world can never provide. Our medical missionaries reveal the heart of the Great Physician when they provide healing care to a patient or demonstrate such care for the unbelieving medical professionals working beside them. Our doctors, dentists, nurses, therapists, and other medical professional provide quality care and training through our hospitals, clinics, mobile medical caravans, in-home visits, and classes which provide them opportunities to share with the dying the gift of eternal life through the saving work of Jesus Christ.

LOOKING FOR HEALING

Yasmeen* first met Reach Beyond medical missionaries in Central Asia a few years ago.
As a young medical student, she joined the residency program run by the staff at Living Hope Clinic*, a Reach Beyond-run medical clinic. Although not a Christian, Yasmeen soon noticed and experienced the love of Jesus demonstrated by clinic staff members. Before long, a clinic staff member invited her to attend church with them.

During her residency, she encountered a heartbreaking situation in her personal life. Dr. Dennis*, a Reach Beyond missionary, offered to pray for her, and Yasmeen agreed, despite telling him that she did not believe in God. After finishing her residency, Yasmeen completed her degree then began her required government service.

In August 2022, now-Dr. Yasmeen returned to Living Hope Clinic as a staff member eager to learn and to provide quality patient care. Within months of starting, she discovered that she was suffering from significant depression. After the hardship during her residency, her husband began seeing other women. Now, they were on the brink of divorce, and Dr. Yasmeen did not know what to do. Dr. Dennis and believing clinic staff members were again able to pray for Dr. Yasmeen and ask her questions that led to important conversations about the Great Physician.

Dr. Yasmeen has not yet accepted the God of All Healing, but He is working in her life. Through believing clinic staff members, He is stirring up new questions within her and providing faithful witnesses to point her to Him.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Reach Beyond’s community development efforts mirror Jesus’ model of meeting felt needs to pave the way for spiritual conversations. We partner with local churches and ministries in demonstrating the love of Jesus through service so that we can proclaim His love to people who have never heard His name. Providing clean water, sanitation and basic hygiene training, plastic recycling tools, and solar-powered light and power to those who lack such resources opens doors for our missionaries and partners to engage unreached people. These engagements take place in locations where relationships would be difficult or even impossible to establish otherwise.

Wim examines water samples as he teaches a class on community development and the inauguration of a new well LIVING WATER MULTIPLIED

In rural West Africa, water wells provide life and serve as a conduit for Living Water. Reach Beyond missionaries Wim and Alfred worked with Henri*, founder of partner ministry Shining Light*, to host community development training sessions for local pastors in West Africa. Shining Light is an indigenous ministry that identifies isolated villages in need of clean water and nearby churches committed to helping install wells and disciple villagers.

Before their training, many pastors were nervous about community development. They worried that a well project would require them to plant a new church, preventing them from caring for the congregations they currently shepherd. Through the training, they learned that properly implemented community development ministry will allow them to reach nearby communities of unreached people while still having the time, energy, and resources to properly care for the flocks God has already entrusted to them.

For their first session, Wim, Alfred, and Henri anticipated a maximum of 50 pastors. Instead, God brought more than 75 attendees! Each pastor learned the principles of effective community development ministry and developed an understanding of how to use such projects as vehicles for evangelism and church planting. The impact of this training session alone will be felt for generations in West Africa! For their first session, Wim, Alfred, and Henri anticipated a maximum of 50 pastors.
